3rd Infantry Division is US army’s oldest yet extremely active military society. It has supported Dogface Soldiers since its inception in 1919. It is part of the XVIII Airborne Corps which happens to be among the nation’s best unit. The 3rd Infantry Division is, therefore often deployed to deal with contingents. It also exists to honor fallen Dogface Soldiers, members and perpetuate both present and past Dogface Soldiers social network.

Fort Stewart – Infantry Rings of Distinction

Fort Stewart is 3rd Infantry Division’s post. It is the biggest US Army post situated in the Eastern part of US. Occupying 279,270 acres of land, Fort Stewart is the most strategic US army training base complete with several facilities. It consists of impact areas, drop zones, helicopter gunnery, field artillery, armored fighting-vehicle gunnery and minor arms live-fire ranges.

History of 3rd Infantry Division

The Division was first activated in November, 1917 at Camp Greene. Eight months down the line, the Division went into a maiden combat at the midnight of July 14th 1918. All surrounding units are reported to have retreated leaving behind the 3rd Infantry Division which chose to soldier on. While Division suffered casualties, the stand was hugely successful. Peace Keeping Missions

Bosnia

After undergoing intense training at Fort Stewart, Georgia, Elements of the 3rd Infantry Division deployed Task Force eagle. This was a peace keeping mission-duped Stabilization Force 8-in Bosnia-Herzegovina and part of the Multinational Division. Handover of authority to the Rock Of Marne was effected on 5th October 2000.

This was on 1st April 2001 by the 48th Brigade belonging to the Georgia National Guard. The transfer of authority back was conducted on 5th October 2000. Back to the 29th Infantry Division. Marne Soldiers then returned back home.

Kosovo 2001

Task Force Falcon, under the command of the 101st Division (Air Assault)-executed essential peacekeeping roles in the ravaged and hence violent province of Kosovo. More than 2,400 Marne Soldiers of the first Brigade combined with about 2,200 101st Airborne Division combatants in May 2001. The combination formed the Kosovo Force. The soldiers took up NATO peacekeeping as well as peace enforcement responsibilities particularly in the Eastern part of the Province. All the soldiers their returned to Fort Stewart Base by November 2001

Battles

The 3rd Infantry Division was deployed during the Second World War. With General Lucia K. Truscott Junior in charge, the division battled in North Africa, Italy, Sicily and France. It was the only US fighting force for a record 53 continuous days in battle. The division also fought in places such as Anzio and Casablanca. Tome, the Siegfried Line and Nurnberg were among many other places. Several other battles it has participated in includes; Through The Vosges. This was a summer war that gave way to bitter battle in the forest of France.

Conclusion

The 3rd Infantry Division is the United States highly trained, adequately facilitated and hence formidable army division. Soldiers in the Division receive the best training and are well equipped. It has also participated in several peacekeeping missions, battles and several defense deployments. The Division is, therefore, one of the most successful forces in the nation.
