Operation Enduring Freedom was the war that changed world history. The war against terror has been going on for some time now and has required the help of armed forces from several countries all over the world. The official name for the war in Afghanistan is OEF or Operation Enduring Freedom. This operation is in several different countries, including Afghanistan, but has one major goal – to counteract terrorist activities.

the death of Osama Bin Laden in May 2011, several operations have come into play over the years. The earliest one is Operation Anaconda which took place in 2002 as a collaborative effort between the US and Afghanistan.

In 2003, Afghanistan held its very first democratic election leading to the swearing-in of Hamid Karzai as the first President of Afghanistan to come into power through democracy in 2004. This was a big step in liberating Afghanistan from terrorists. In 2005, elections were held again for voting in public officials, an event that hadn’t taken place in more than thirty years.

operation enduring freedom2007 saw the deployment of more NATO troops into Afghanistan and the death of one of the Taliban’s top military commanders. The following year, the then-presidential candidate Barack Obama visited Afghanistan for the first time. In the year 2009, more troops were deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan by order of President Barack Obama. This was also the year of Afghanistan’s second election. President Hamid Karzai won the election for a second time by default. By 2010, more troops were deployed to the country and the Netherlands became the first country to pull out of the war. President Obama made his second visit to Afghanistan making this his first visit as president. He made his third visit later that year.

In May of the following year, Osama Bin Laden’s reign of terror had come to an end. This was not the end, however, as troops continued to weed out pockets of resistance. The Afghan National Security Forces officially took over the operation in 2013 and after thirteen long years of war, the operation was finally at an end. Troops were redeployed to their home countries.
