Their name is a homophone of the word “construction battalion” (when you say CB, it sounds like Seabee). They have built miles of roadways and airstrips, as well as anything else required to accomplish the mission. There are two mottos of this force. The first one is “Can Do!” while the other is “We build. We fight”. The latter one is the correct description of their job. They are in charge of building whatever is required. However, they also need to know how to defend the facilities they build if an enemy attacks. Aside from that, they go through basic medical training. This is why they can proudly wear their uniforms and navy class rings.
A bee served as an inspiration for the Seabees logo, which you can find on gold and silver navy rings on their hands. An interesting fact to note is that they were supposed to be called beavers but Frank Lafrate, the creator of the logo, changed his mind. He realized that bees were the perfect symbol because they are busy workers and they don’t attack first. They won’t touch you unless you bother them. However, if provoked, bees will sting.

Seabees were founded during the World War II. Their base was in California, and the first Seabees were recruited from the civilian construction trades. The average age of Seabees was 37 at the time. However, this changed over time, as well as their navy class rings and assignments.
Seabees have gone on to build projects across various continents. They participated in Korea and Vietnam wars, conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and dozens of other countries where they were needed. They even went to Antarctica, where they built a project for scientific purposes.
